‘I heard about the Kingdom of God for the first time; and the Tabernacle of Moses. I had been living on a lower level, and had to come up to a higher level.

Sonia grew up in a Christian home. She didn’t really know God and became desperate in her search to ‘find’ Him. Her frustration grew until one eventful day, when at the age of fourteen she kicked her parent’s bedroom door open to ask them, ‘Where’s God?’

The search continued. Sonia stormed out of the house, crying, ‘God – today I have to meet you!’

She sat down beneath a tree; right there and then God answered her, ‘I’m here’.

Sheltered from the heat by the leafy branches, the Holy Spirit filled her with Hiscomfort and His peace. At last, Sonja found what she’d been searching for. It was then she realized; God is ‘not so far that I cannot reach. Not so far away from me that I cannot touch’.

The role of the Holy Spirit in our lives today is such a reality.

‘To walk with God, we need to understand who God really is. Is He part of you; are you a part of Him?’ Sonia realized she was just a baby and needed to mature.

For the next two years, Sonia was hungry for God’s Living Word. Church couldn’t satisfy her appetite; she longed for change. God led her to a Pentecostal church where revival broke out.

For eight years, she faithfully served in church. She applied to, and was accepted by, a Bible School in Namibia. However, God had other plans, and He subsequently shut the door. Bizweni College in South Africa was offering sponsorship for one student. Sonia firmly believed it was for her. After much discussion, it was offered instead to a young Namibian man.

Sonia’s response to this was, ‘Lord, whatever you want!’ In faith, she gave up her job, along with everything else; trusting God to open the way for her to come to Bizweni.

He did. Someone offered to pay all her costs and she joined the other first year students.

‘I heard about the Kingdom of God for the first time; and the Tabernacle of Moses. I had been living on a lower level, and had to come up to a higher level.

Sonia found the answer – a Kingdom Key:

Be transformed by the renewal of your mind.

It wasn’t easy though for this strong-willed woman, ‘God was breaking me, to build me again’. God provided for Sonia to return to Bizweni to complete a second year; gaining a Diploma in Ministry. She didn’t want to keep the word to herself.

‘In Namibia, we don’t have the information and the books to learn about everything.’

‘How can I carry this word to the people when I go back?’

When Sonia returned to her homeland, her house soon filled up with people. They were all hungry for the word of God. The student became the teacher. Sonia taught them and imparted what she’d been taught at Bizweni. As the word had changed her, she witnessed it changing her neighbors too!

Sonia longed to speak in her church, but she was never given the opportunity. She found this really frustrating! She then spent a whole year meditating on the Word of God at home.

In one year God changed my life. I didn’t need to say anything – I just walked it.

Then God opened a door for her; she was asked to preach and teach children in pre-school and crèche.

God then instructed Sonia to go to a local community and live amongst them – the poorest of the poor. She was distraught; why would God would ask her to live in such poverty?

Local children of all ages were soon drawn to her, and the word spread. ‘They had no manners – they were running around, screaming, dancing!’

One day she realized she was caring for 500 children! She cried out, ‘God – I can’t do this! It was so difficult for me. God was teaching me patience. I just kept on. I’d rather choose God’s way, though it’s difficult and hard.’

‘Then all the kids were quiet! It’s God that changed the minds of those kids – brought order and transformation.’

Sonia speaks lovingly of the community she’s lived in since 2003; ‘These people don’t have anyone to lead them. They’re hungry for God. He chose me to go into these areas and preach the gospel.’

This place is like a diamond – a mountain full of diamonds – I could see inside of them.

The Lord has commissioned Sonia to start a ministry. He’s even provided her with a large tent and chairs to put in it!

Sonia thought of the people who lived far off in remote places. She wanted to reach them with the gospel, but how? It was too far to walk, and the roads were too full of holes to travel by bicycle. She prayed, asking God to provide her with a car. Sure enough, a car was offered to her. Nothing is too hard for God.

Sonia lives by faith; trusting the Lord to provide whatever she needs – food and clothing (for her and others), stationary – pens, paper, books etc. She always needs more bibles!

Sonia also has a heart for 16,000 young people in Namibia (aged 16 -19), who failed their grade 10 in school and therefore cannot return to continue their studies. She aims to do something to help them, giving this next generation hope and a future. ‘I’m opening up a youth programm, to teach them computer skills.’ She’s already been given some computers; printers are also needed.

Sonia’s faith is strong, firm and steadfast. Who’d have thought the young lady who first arrived at Bizweni College years ago, would grow to become an ambassador of Christ giving hope, igniting faith, across the nations.

God ordained you to be who you are from the beginning of the world.
